This beautiful ad for West Bengal Tourism takes the viewer on a journey seen through the eyes of a foreigner, soaking in the culture, the food and the ambience of the state. From the busy college streets and yellow cabs in Kolkata, to devouring bhetki paturis, to visiting the architecturally significant temples of Bishnupur, to the haunting music of the Bauls, to Rabidra Sangeet - the commercial captures all things beautiful about the state.
We get to see the Toy Train in Darjeeling, a trip to the Puja house and then, to end the TVC on a high, we see Bengal’s adopted son Shah Rukh Khan sweeping the visitor off her feet and reciting Tagore’s immortal lines: “Ami chini go chini tomare ogo bideshini” (‘O, the lady from abroad, you are known to me’).
SRK, who has an emotional attachment to the area because of his ownership of IPL franchise ‘Kolkata Knight Riders’, finishes the ad with a the message ‘Welcome to Bengal. The sweetest part of India.’
The ad was conceptualized by Ogilvy and Mather and produced by Nirvana Films. Prime Focus editors Shyam Salgaonkar (Sally) and Kevin Mathew delivered the offline and online edits respectively, while colorist Michele Ricossa carefully color matched footage from multiple locations in West Bengal and delivered a sumptuous grade to show the region off at its finest.
